Cyprus submarine fibre optic network
Cyprus is connected the to the rest of the world via a submarine fibre optic cable network. This network connects Cyprus directly with Greece, Italy, Israel, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt and thereafter with the rest of the world. The Cyprus end of the fiber optic network is owned by CYTA Global, a division of the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority.

According to the latest reports (November 2008) of the Cyprus Statistical Service (CyStat), 42.9% of households have accessed the internet at least once during 2008 (compared to 38.9% in 2007). 76.8% of those households are using a broadband connection (compared to 52% in 2007).
